Jimmy Carter


Jimmy Carter was born on the October 1st 1924 in Plains Georgia. He was the 39th president of
the United States Of America from 1977 to 1981. Carter’s anticipation of mishandling these
issues led to defeat in his bid for reelection. He was also awarded the 2002 Nobel Peace
Prize to find solutions to international clashes. He is known as a human rights hero because he
was motivated to oppose the political climate racial segregation and support the growing
civil rights movement.

Human rights heroes
Week 1 - Oskar Schindler was a German citizen who
was born on April 28th 1908 in Svitavy, Oskar Schindler became
the manager and a member of the Nazi Party who was credited
with saving the lives of 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust by
employing them in his ammunition factories and also letting them stay overnight.
In a 1964 interview he said, “The persecution of Jews in the General Government in Polish territory gradually worsened in its cruelty. Schindler died in Germany, broke and virtually unknown, in 1974. Many of the people he helped and their descendants financed the transfer of his body for burial in Israel, his final wish.
