Chief Joseph (1840–1904)

Son of a Nez Perce chief during the United States westward expansion, Joseph was born at a time of many disputes over land treaties, which led to years of injustice and attacks from the American military. In 1871, Joseph became chief and worked hard to keep his tribe from retaliating against violence inflicted upon them. At one point, Chief Joseph negotiated a deal with the federal government that would allow his tribe to remain on their land, as was all too often the case in such situations, the government reversed the agreement three years later and threatened to attack if the tribe did not relocate to a reservation. He continued to fight for equality until he died.

One day in Auschwitz

Summary

Auschwitz was a concentration camp with over 40 other camps built inside and all were operated by Nazi soldiers and used for a factory of death. 1.3 million people were kept captive and about 1.1 million of them died to gassing and natural causes.

Kitty's mother formed a relationship with the priest being able to teach other nationalities english. Her mother began this job because making a relationship with the priest would mean they’d both be able to escape.

Kitty and her mother eventually escaped poland and were arrested for entering the country unauthorised.

On 2 April 1943, when Kitty was 16, she and her mother arrived at Auschwitz. They found jobs working with dead prisoners, which was less physically demanding than jobs outside the camp. They had to sleep in wooden sheds that were meant for 52 horses but 1000 prisoners were squeezed into them.They were having to share 1 blanket and a straw mattress between 10 people.

Prisoners most feared thing was selections because they were picked randomly. When you were selected you were sent to block 25 to await death. Her mother later on worked as a nurse were Kitty helped her mother. Kitty would hide her friends there but told them it was the most dangerous place because SS doctors would come in and pick out selections. She eventually lost her friends to selections.

After 2 years Kitty and her mother had survived. 30 members of Kittys family died to nazi’s including her father and grand father. Kitty’s mother Rosa felix lived the rest of her life in Birmingham, England where she died peacefully in 1974 at the age of 84. Kitty currently lives in England she has two sons and eight grandchildren.

Nelson Mandela

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born in 18 July 1918. He had 5 kids named Makaziwe, Zindziswa,
Zenani, Makgatho, and Madiba Mandela. Nelson was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader, and philanthropist
who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.

He was the country's first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. Mandela was arrested in a countrywide police swoop on 5 December

1956, which led to the 1956 Treason Trial. Men and women of all races found themselves in

the dock in the marathon trial that only ended when the last 28 accused, including Mandela.

He died 5 December 2013.

Facts.

1. Mandela and his cousin Justice ran away from home in 1941 to avoid arranged marriages.
2. During his lifetime, Mandela received more than 695 awards, including the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize.
3. Mandelas prison number was 46664 that was to indicate he was the 466th prisoner

Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks was born Rosa Louise McCauley Parks on the 4 of February in Tuskegee, Alabama

USA. Rosa Parks is also known as ‘’ mother of civil rights movement ‘’ She is named that after

she invigorated the struggle for racial equality when she refused to give up her bus seat to a

white man in Montgomery, Alabama in 1995. Rosa received numerous awards for her strength, courage and her work for civil rights. Rosa died of natural causes on 24 October 2005 at the

age of 92. But she continues to be recognized around the world.
