Human rights heroes
Week 1 - Oskar Schindler was a German citizen who
was born on April 28th 1908 in Svitavy, Oskar Schindler became
the manager and a member of the Nazi Party who was credited
with saving the lives of 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust by
employing them in his ammunition factories and also letting them stay overnight.
In a 1964 interview he said, “The persecution of Jews in the General Government in Polish territory gradually worsened in its cruelty. Schindler died in Germany, broke and virtually unknown, in 1974. Many of the people he helped and their descendants financed the transfer of his body for burial in Israel, his final wish.
